Donations needed for reliquary purchases
By Rev. Matthew Wertin
In a recent transfer of precious historical objects, from a bank safe-deposit box to a safe in our own archives at the Catholic Pastoral Center, inventory was taken and it was discovered that we possess two very rare, first-class relics of St. Blaise and St. Lucy.
Each is a bone of substantial size, and the one belonging to St. Blaise is still fully intact.
The only certified person in all of North America to authenticate and encase relics on behalf of the Church, Father Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross of Ottawa, Ontario, is in the process of preparing the reliquaries and ensuring the preservation of these relics for the veneration of the faithful. He believes the reason the diocese has these relics is because fragments from the bones were used in the altar stones of our parishes and missions as they were established.
This is a gift from God of immeasurable proportions, one which has the potential to not only increase faith, foster pilgrims, and make for great PR, but also provide supernatural graces to our people and efforts. By no coincidence begun during this Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy and involving two of the saints who specialize in healing miracles (St. Blaise being one of the 14 Holy Helpers), Fr. Martins mentioned these are the two biggest relics of these particular saints he has ever seen. He said, “You will be the ‘envy’ of every diocese in the nation.” As wonderful as this is, we need your help. It will cost approximately $6,000 simply to encase the relics in the proper reliquaries, and then we will need several thousand more to customize the pillars where they will be stationed for public viewing. We are able to accept donations from benefactors in memory of a loved one who has passed, or for another special intention, either of which may receive special designation on the plaques that will be affixed to the pillars.
Please contact the administrative assistant, Edie Knellinger, at email@example.com, as soon as possible, if you would like to be involved in making this project come to life, as a treasure for all to enjoy in the years to come.
