Becoming the Diocese of the Little Way

On December 10, 1944, in addition to being entrusted to the celestial care of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and our Blessed Lady of Victory, the holy virgin St. Therese of the Child Jesus was confirmed, constituted, and declared to be the principal patroness of the Diocese of Pueblo.

In April of 1945, Bishop Willging placed “every portion of the diocese under her immediate protection.” He was often heard and quoted as saying, “St. Therese is the real bishop of Pueblo.” (The Willging Years, pg. 166) Furthermore, St. Therese has not only been referred to as “the greatest saint of modern times,” (St. Pius X) but also “the greatest healer of modern times.” (Venerable Pius XII) St. John Paul II, in preparation for declaring her a Doctor of the Universal Church, stated that she “has a privileged place in the Church. Her eminent teaching deserves to be considered among the most fruitful.” (Angelus, 24 August 1997) She is the most quoted woman in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and loved all over the world. Please help us embrace this unique and powerful opportunity for authentic renewal in all our efforts!
