Bishop Tafoya passes away at age 85

Bishop Emeritus Arthur N. Tafoya passed away March 24 at his home in Albuquerque. He was 85. Bishop Tafoya served as the third bishop of Pueblo from 1980 to 2009.

For those 29 years, he ministered to parishioners in all corners of the diocese and was known for his affinity for being with the people.

Father Ben Bacino: 1948 - 2018

Father Ben Bacino passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2018. He was currently serving as pastor of St. Mary Help of Christians in Pueblo.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Fr. Ben on May 17 at the Cathedral in Pueblo. He was entombed at Roselawn Cemetery, also in Pueblo.

Durango Knight does charitable work in Guatemala

With assistance from Durango Knights of Columbus Council #1408, Brother Robert Gallegos accompanied seven doctors, two nurses, a physical therapist and 11 volunteers to Guatemala to provide optical services to residents of five different villages.

As the year draws to a close at St. John Neumann Catholic School, it is time to reflect upon the past accomplishments and plan for the school’s future. Principal Joyce Baca Anderson retired at the end of the year and the school now welcomes new administrator, Jennifer Welte.

Delta scout receives Parvuli Dei medal

Alex Kuta, then a Webelos Scout in Cub Scout Pack 485, received the Parvuli Dei (Children of God) medal at Mass on Saturday, April 21.  Alex has since crossed over to Boy Scout Troop 485.

Bishop waited patiently for Poor Clares to arrive in Pueblo

Bishop Tafoya spent 14 years patiently waiting for the Capuchin Poor Clares to arrive in Pueblo. On June 14, 1987 he visited the Capuchin community in Amarillo, Texas for the first time.

His goal was to invite the Poor Clares to the Diocese of Pueblo to establish a community.
