Fall Clergy Retreat

Priests and Deacons in the diocese are invited to the fall clergy retreat September 19 to 23 at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado Springs.  Information can be found on the brochure.

Presenter:  Father Gerard J. McGlone, SJ


Father McGlone was ordained in 1987 for the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus.

He has been co-director of research and staff therapist at the National Institute for the Study, Prevention, and Treatment of Sexual Trauma. He has been a psychotherapist in many settings while in California, Massachusetts and Maryland for almost 25 years. He graduated from CSPP-San Diego in 2001 with a Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology. He also has four Master's degrees: one in Divinity, one in Theology and two in Psychology-Clinical and Counseling Psychology. His dissertation topic focused on Roman Catholic clerical sexual offenders.

He is currently the Executive Director of Consultation, Education and Research at the Saint John Vianney Center in Downingtown, PA. He was a clinical and research fellow at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He was appointed to this position in July 2001 to June 2004. He is currently an Assistant Professor (applied-on leave) at Georgetown University, School of Medicine, and Department of Psychiatry.

His past research at Johns Hopkins has been on non-clerical sexual offenders. His research at Georgetown University focused on the effects of trauma on faith-based communities and how faith-based communities might prevent domestic violence in all of its forms. He is the author of several peer-reviewed articles. He is the lead author of the book, "Creating Safe and Sacred Places" published by Saint Mary's Press. This book is a faith-based approach to child and teen safety facing directly the issue of sexual abuse in Church communities.

  • Coordinates the activities of the clergy assembly.
  • Oversees the maintenance of clergy personnel files.
  • Oversees the coordination of the missions appeals for the Diocese.
