Study Days to be held in May

This year’s annual Study Days will take place May 9 to 11 at St. Pius X parish in Pueblo. This year’s presenters will be Dr. Arturo Chavez, president and CEO of the Mexican American Catholic College in San Antonio, Texas. Accompanying him will be Dr. Valentin Ekiaka, an associate professor at MACC. They will present on the theme, “Ministry in our Culturally Diverse Parishes.”

Dr. Chavez led the organization into its current transition from a cultural center to a Catholic college that offers B.A. and M.A. degrees in pastoral ministry. The unique degree plans are offered bilingually to meet the growing needs of Latinos for higher education, especially for service in faith communities. His commitment to community-based activism, education, and peace-building continues through his ministry as a teacher, facilitator, and international speaker.

Dr. Valentin Ekiaka holds several degrees from universities worldwide and is proficient in eight languages. He has worked as an elementary teacher and faculty member in Africa, the Caribbean, Mexico and USA. He has authored more than 40 publications in peer-review journals, presented in national and international venues as a lead-presenter, keynote/featuring speaker.
