Pueblo LIFE Runners off to quick start

By Megan Drapa
The LIFE Runners Team (liferunners.org) is the world’s largest pro-life running/walking team currently represented in 22 countries and all 50 states. Including newborns to 90 year olds, LIFE runners/walkers gather monthly and are committed to raising awareness, prayers and funds for the pro - life movement. Combining “witness with fitness,” LIFE runners/walkers present a tangible and easy way for fellowship and group witness.

Each member of the LIFE runner team wears the blue team jersey with “Remember the Unborn” written across the back. We gather as a team, begin our gathering with a prayer then run and walk as a group providing public witness for the unborn. Each adult member is encouraged to raise funds for our local A Caring Pregnancy Center (ACPC) and for 2016 national beneficiary the Vitae Foundation (vitaefoundation.org).

With over 51 percent of Americans identifying themselves as pro-life, LIFE runners/walkers is a simple way for most of us to turn our belief into action. Founded by Air Force Academy graduate and now-retired Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Pat Castle and Dr. Rich Reich in 2008, the Pueblo arm of the apostolate kicked off this past November. We currently meet at 9 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month at the southwest corner of Nature Center Road and Pueblo Blvd. In February, the Pueblo LIFE runners/walkers were joined by Bishop Berg, Life Runner founder Dr. Pat Castle, local team chaplain and diocesan pro-life liaison Father Matthew Wertin and representatives from the Vitae Foundation.

The Vitae Foundation is a national organization utilizing research-based messaging using cutting-edge media techniques to inform women facing an untimely pregnancy about local pregnancy help centers. They are dedicated to educating the public about the value and sanctity of human life and to restoring the value of life as a core belief in the American culture. Through diocesan collaboration with our local pregnancy help center, ACPC, the Vitae foundation has granted market media support, allowing ACPC to reach and serve more abortion-minded and abortion-vulnerable women. Vitae Foundation provides abortion vulnerable women with messaging and media that would direct them to ACPC or the closest pregnancy help center along the Front Range.
