Fr. Maurice Gallagher

GallagherFr. Maurice O. Gallagher, 94, a Priest of the Diocese of Pueblo, formerly of Waukon, IA, died Monday, May 25, 2015, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.  Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 30th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon.  Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. Friday at Martin Funeral Home(202 Allamakee St NW, Waukon, IA 52172), where there will be a 3:45 p.m. Scripture Service.  Memorial services in the Pueblo area are:  12:00 noon June 2, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart; and 10:30 a.m. June 14, 2015 at Sacred Heart Parish, Avondale.  Cards or messages of condolence can be sent to Los Pobres, c/o Sr. Nancy Crafton, P. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Reverend Monsignor Maurice Orlando Gallagher who passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 in Waukon, Iowa. 

Monsignor Gallagher stated in his Will that if he should die outside of the Diocese of Pueblo, his Funeral and Burial would take place in Waukon, Iowa.  In accordance with this request, the Funeral Mass and Burial will be held in Iowa and a Memorial Mass will be scheduled at 12:00 noon June 2, 2014 at Sacred Heart Cathedral and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Parish, Avondale.    Cards or messages of condolence can be sent to Los Pobres, c/o Sr. Nancy Crafton, P. Monsignor Gallagher was born on May 4, 1921 in Waukon, Iowa.  He was ordained for the Diocese of Pueblo on June 3, 1950 in Worthington, Ohio, and began his ministry at Saint Joseph Parish, Grand Junction later that month.  During his tenure in the Diocese of Pueblo he served at Saint Patrick Parish, La Junta; Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Pueblo; St. Joseph Parish, Salida; St. Rose of Lima Parish, Buena Vista; St. Mary Parish, Walsenburg; Sacred Heart Parish, Avondale and Saint William Mission, Boone;  and Mary Queen of Heaven, Fowler.  He retired in Avondale after his last appointment there, remaining very active in the parish for many years.
