Sister of Mercy celebrates 50 years of service

Sister Elaine Pacheco, RSM, is celebrating her 50th year as a Sister of Mercy. Sister Elaine is currently serving as a senior consultant at the Mountain Park Environmental Center in Beulah, and working as a social worker, massage therapist, and spiritual director in private practice in Pueblo.  Sister Elaine established the first Alzheimer’s support groups in Southern Colorado and created the first Alzheimer’s day stay program in Pueblo through the support of St. Mary Corwin Hospital and her development of the Southern Colorado Alzheimer’s Association.

In addition, Sister Elaine also taught in the social work department at Colorado State University, was an initial board member for Mountain Park Environmental Center and has secured grants through the West Midwest Sisters of Mercy to support The Earth Studies program for 5th graders. Born and raised in Pueblo, and a graduate of South High School,  Sister Elaine entered the novitiate in Omaha, Neb. and has also ministered in Nebraska, Utah and Idaho.
