Local youth discover they are “Called and Gifted... NOW!”

By Sarah Nelson
“Engaging,” “humorous,”  “exciting,” “powerful,” these are some of the words used to describe the recent Middle School and High School Festivals hosted in the Southern Colorado Catholic deaneries on February 7 and 8. The keynote speakers for both events were nationally known evangelistic duo, Brad Farmer and Gene Monterastelli- known as “APeX Ministries.”

During the two day event, APeX masterfully wove together stories of personal testimony and acrobatic feats, challenging  youth to “become super heroes” for God, and to imitate the lives of the saints in prayer and personal holiness.

A highlight of both events was the attendance of Bishop Stephen Berg whose presence of affectionate welcome to all of the youth, their parents, and leadership was warmly received.  A special note of thanks to the Catholic Foundation for their generous grant to fund the event, the numerous parishes who came together to host and serve at the events, and those who planned the special youth service project for the teenagers.  The two day event was a powerful testimony to creating a unified Catholic identity in the diocese. Plans are already underway for next year’s middle school and high school youth festivals. Save
